Mobile alerting with tracking & escalation for Grafana

Grafana_S4_Alert2

 Why SIGNL4

Grafana is a multi-platform open source analytics and interactive visualization software available since 2014. It provides charts, graphs, and alerts for the web when connected to supported data sources. Performance monitors are easy to configure, and notifications channels are configured with just a few clicks.  SIGNL4 ensures that all on duty members receive, acknowledge and resolve critical alerts, all from their smartphones. With persistent notifications and escalation chains there will never be a critical alert that goes unattended. SIGNL4 also offers ad-hoc collaboration between team members for each alert, so Subject Matter Experts can be looped in to help resolve issues.

How To Integrate

Integrating SIGNL4 with Grafana

In our example we are using Grafana to monitor the uptime of critical applications.  We are setting up a webhook to send alerts to the SIGNL4 team when the site is unreachable.

SIGNL4 is a mobile alert notification app for powerful alerting, alert management and mobile assignment of work items.  Get the app at https://www.signl4.com

Prerequisites

A SIGNL4 (https://www.signl4.com) account

A Grafana (https://grafana.com/) account

Integration Steps

  1. First, we need to make sure that Grafana was the WorldPing plug in.
  2. Now we need to set an endpoint to monitor.
  3. Enter the URL of the application you want to monitor and click Discover. The discovery will take place and then click Add.
  4. Once the end point is probed you will start seeing data display on the dashboard.
  5. Click on the Bell Icon for Alerting and select Notification channels. Click Add New Channel
  6. Input the Webhook URL for the SIGNL4 team to be alerted when alerts for this dashboard go off.
  7. Now once the site is unreachable, Grafana will send JSON format via POST to the SIGNL4 team. Alerts will be displayed in the mobile app and can be Augmented with colors, icons and sounds.

Alert Optimization

SIGNL4 can further increase the visibility of alerts through its Signals and Services section.  Augmenting the color and icon of alerts will provide more relevant information at a glance without having to open the alert.

Change Alert Color and Override Title + Text

Override text, colors and titles are triggered by keywords set within the mobile app.
